Resonance is an interdisciplinary initiative of The Beauford Delaney Project that invites scholars, artists, musicians, writers, students, and other creative thinkers to enter into conversation with the life, work, and legacy of Beauford Delaney. These conversations foster new ways of seeing, interpreting, and sharing his work, revealing how Delaney's vision continues to inspire inquiry and creative expression across disciplines and generations.

Rather than treating Delaney's paintings as historical artifacts to be admired from a distance, Resonance encourages participants to engage with them as living works that continue to provoke curiosity, reflection, scholarship, and artistic response. Each contribution becomes part of a growing digital archive that documents the many ways Delaney's work continues to inspire the world today.

The conversation series began with a simple question:

What happens when contemporary creators are invited to respond to Delaney's work through the lens of their own discipline?

Each project adds another voice to an expanding conversation—one that bridges art, scholarship, education, and public engagement.

Resonance is more than a collection of creative responses. It is a living archive, a growing community of interdisciplinary scholars and artists, and a catalyst for future generations to study, interpret, and extend Delaney's extraordinary legacy.

The name Resonance is inspired byBeauford Delaney: Resonance of Form and Vibration of Color, the landmark 2016 exhibition presented by Wells International Foundation in Paris. That exhibition marked the beginning of the organization's long-term commitment to preserving, interpreting, and extending Beauford Delaney's artistic legacy.
