Swann to Auction Two Beauford Delaney Works on October 1, 2026

Swann Auction Galleries is celebrating 20 years of selling African-American art. Founded by Nigel Freeman in 2006, its African-American Art department handles works dating from the late nineteenth century to the Harlem Renaissance, as well as work from modern and contemporary African American artists.

As part of its October 1, 2026 African American Art auction, it is offering two Beauford Delaney works for sale.

Both of them come directly from the Beauford Delaney Estate.

Swann indicates that this work was shown in an exhibition called Making Connections: The Art and Life of Herbert Gentry at Boston University in 2014. Gentry was a friend of Beauford who spoke about him at length during an interview with the Smithsonian Institute’s Archives of American Art in 1991.

A 1966 work on paper with an inscription and size similar to that of Les Fleurs was sold by Martini Studio d’Arte in September 2020.
